Entry, insurance & documents

Check current entry requirements with the National Immigration Administration and the Chinese embassy responsible for your residence. Verify insurance covers your intended cycling, terrain, races and medical transport; read exclusions and limits. Store copies securely, never on a public issue tracker.

Maps & translation

Try Amap or Baidu Maps before your ride and check the available language options. Compare a proposed cycle route with signs and local advice. Download translation resources and save your accommodation address in Chinese. Stop in a safe place to use your phone.

Phone service

Confirm voice calling, data coverage, device compatibility and roaming costs with your provider. A data-only product may not support ordinary calls. Check SIM registration requirements with the operator. Do not rely on continuous coverage outside cities.

Paying for everyday things

Prepare more than one payment method. China’s official payment guide describes cards, mobile payments and cash. Test supported Alipay or Weixin Pay setup with your own card before relying on it; eligibility, verification, fees and limits can change. Keep a practical backup.

Transporting your bike

Ask your airline or railway operator about your exact service before buying a ticket. Confirm packing, dimensions, weight, booking requirements and battery restrictions. Do not assume an assembled bicycle is accepted on a train or a flight.

SAFETY RECOMMENDATION

Water, tools & daily checks

Carry enough drinking water and food for gaps between supplies. Pack puncture supplies, a pump, lights, a power bank and suitable layers. Check forecast warnings, air quality and local road restrictions again on the day. Tell a trusted contact your plan and expected return.

Plan carefully. Check current local laws, weather and road conditions before every ride. Read our disclaimer ↗
